OnePlus pulls OxygenOS 5.0 Oreo OTA update for 3 and 3T following complaints

It appears that OnePlus has pulled the over-the-air (OTA) update of OxygenOS 5.0 that was released around two weeks ago for the OnePlus 3 and 3T after users complained of several issues with the Android 8.0 (Oreo) based OS.

The issues included, but weren"t limited to, significantly reduced volume, mobile data not working, volume over Bluetooth issues, battery drain, touch latency and the OnePlus launcher crashing, among others.

As of now, OxygenOS 5.0 is no longer being offered OTA

While others in the support threads, including OnePlus support on Twitter, have suggested for users to clear the system cache, or in some cases perform a complete factory reset, some users have indicated that these steps fail to fix the issues they are experiencing. Furthermore, it appears that downgrading isn"t possible, a complete wipe and restore would be needed to go back to OxygenOS 4.

If you are one of those that updated but have been experiencing issues with OxygenOS 5.0 and can"t get into recovery, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Developer options,
  2. Turn on Advanced reboot,
  3. Long press power button and press reboot,
  4. Choose recovery from the three options.

Sorry about that, Rahul. May we know if you"ve already tried clearing cache through recovery mode?

So far OnePlus has not commented officially or otherwise (in support threads) about the status of the Oreo OxygenOS 5.0 OTA update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. As of writing, the OxygenOS 5.0 images are still available to download on the official site and are marked as recommended. It is up to you if you decide to manually apply the update, but our recommendation would be to wait for an official announcement from OnePlus regarding the above issues or a newer update.
