Despite companies beginning to ask users to come back into the office, it seems that many people are still a bit reluctant to go out for meals. Deliveroo, a popular food delivery service that primarily takes orders through a mobile app, has said it saw a strong fourth quarter in 2021 with the monthly average order frequency sitting at 3.4 per month.
In the UK, the company’s home market, the food delivery service saw its Gross Transaction Value (GTV) increase by 36% in Q4’21 compared to Q4’20, and compared to Q3’21, the GTV was up 12% in Q4’21. Internationally, Deliveroo also saw a 36% increase in GTV in Q4’21 year-over-year but compared to Q3’21 it only saw a 10% increase.
Commenting on the financials, Will Shu, Founder and CEO of Deliveroo, said:
“Deliveroo"s focus has always been to deliver great experiences to our consumers, help our partners to grow, and provide further opportunities for riders. I am proud of what we achieved in 2021; despite a challenging backdrop, we continued to strengthen our customer proposition, widen our customer base and execute against our strategy.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has seen people in more developed nations, where infrastructure permits, rely heavily on technology to go about their day-to-day business. More people are using video conferencing, working from home, doing school from home, and ordering food from home through services like Deliveroo. With some semblance of normality now returning in some countries, it’ll be interesting to see how apps like Deliveroo perform in the future or whether people will get back into going out to eat.
