Earlier today, Microsoft released important out-of-band (OOB) optional updates to fix several issues. These include VPN connectivity problems that were introduced with the recent Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 10 as well as Windows 11. Since it is a cumulative update, you won"t need to install other previous updates. You can navigate to it via Settings > Windows Update & Security or opt for a standalone download via the Microsoft Update catalog.
Here"s how Microsoft describes the VPN issue:
After installing KB5009566, IP Security (IPSEC) connections which contain a Vendor ID might fail. VPN connections using Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) or IP security Internet Key Exchange (IPSEC IKE) might also be affected.
Alongside VPN connectivity problems, the new updates also fix Windows Server domain controller restarting problems, Virtual Machines start failure inside Hyper-V issue, and Resilient File System (ReFS)-formatted removable media mount failure bug. This is something we covered in detail prior to the fix here.
The following updates given alongside the respective Windows versions are meant to address these issues.
