A new build (40.0.2296.0) of Opera developer has been released. The update is a significant one bringing with it two much sought after features: an RSS reader, and Chromecast support.
It"s still early days for the new RSS reader, as the blog post points out:
“This build comes with another set of changes and improvements. As an important addition, we also bring the first version of RSS support! Even though the functionality is very limited at the moment, you can already take it for a spin. Just click on ["+ Add sources"] button and paste [a] URL into [the] search field. Once recognized as [a] valid source, you can add it.”
As you"d expect from a feature that has just launched in a developer build of Opera, the RSS feature is still pretty rough around the edges. Those responsible for developing the RSS reader already know of the following bugs, and will address them in upcoming releases:
- Missing “Remove from my sources” button. As a workaround, you can go to the add sources button, paste the same URL and untick it.
- When combined with other sources, article age is not taken properly into account and timeline gets messed up.
- The URL is displayed instead of the RSS title (header and sidebar).
As for Chromecast support, when you install the Google Cast extension from the store and have a Chromecast device attached to your display and operating on the same Wi-Fi network, the device should be detected and sending links should work.
