Earlier this year, Opera announced that it would soon be launching a new Opera Touch update for iOS that includes its Ethereum Crypto Wallet; today it has finally launched this feature in a new browser update. With this launch, Opera now has Crypto Wallet support on all platforms including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum is not only a cryptocurrency in itself, but it also allows for interesting applications to be built upon its blockchain. These decentralized apps, also call dApps, give the Ethereum blockchain more utility and by extension makes the new Opera Touch Crypto Wallet all the more interesting.
With Web 3.0 being new, and people being unfamiliar with what the technology is capable of, Opera has included a dApp called Marble.Cards which allows you to turn any URL into a digital collectible card, but each URL can only be converted once. Each Marble card, therefore, is unique and can be collected, traded, or sold. Each card is a non-fungible token (NFT) on the Ethereum blockchain, ensuring that they cannot be cloned.
Web 3.0 is still a nascent technology and therefore the things we could all use it for in the future may not have been developed just yet. With that said, it’s nice to see Opera including Web 3.0 technologies in its browser allowing for wider adoption by reducing barriers. Even if Web 3.0 and crypto wallets aren’t for you, be sure to check out Opera Touch as it has been designed from the ground up with an interface optimised for mobile.
