Ending days of speculation, Oracle finally slashed its prices yesterday for its next-generation 10g database software, by 16% in a bid to capture a sizeable market pie of small to mid-size businesses.
The price cut, which is effective in India, is however applicable only for it"s Standard Edition One software, with prices of its Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition remaining the same.
According to sources in the company, the product would now be available in the domestic market for Rs 2,28,340, from the earlier Rs 2,74,060, while internationally its price now stands at $4,995 per processor extending to a maximum server capacity of two processors.
The database can also be purchased under a "named user plus" license, at $149 per user, from the earlier $195 per user, subject to a minimum of five users.
Specially crafted for grid computing, Oracle Database 10g promises to offer features such as speed, simplicity in installation and configuration apart from automatic storage management. These features aim to considerably scale down the manageability cost of the database administrator, according to company insiders.
Apparently the product, which has already been shipped to India, would be rolled out in the markets within the next few days.
