After a near three-month hiatus, Google recently published its latest Android usage stats which showed that a mere 2% of Google Play devices were on the latest version of Oreo, a subset of the total Oreo install-base of 12.1%. The news came despite numerous devices, such as Samsung"s Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones as well as its Galaxy Tab 3, began receiving updates to Oreo in the first quarter of this calendar year.
While users of other Samsung smartphones may be eagerly awaiting news of a major OS upgrade for their devices, it may end up being a test of patience for some handset owners in India. According to a notice spotted by SamMobile, a total of twelve devices are slated to receive Oreo updates before the end of the year.
Notable mentions in the list include the Galaxy Note8 as well as the Tab S3 9.7 and Tab A which are scheduled to be updated by the end of October while a selection of Galaxy A, C, and J devices make up the bulk of the remainder. At this stage, the latter devices will see Oreo pushed out at some point in the last two months of the year.
Although this is good news for owners of these devices, it should be noted that any potential rollout could be delayed or dropped altogether should the company"s detailed review of each device determine them to be unsuitable.
