Developer 10tons got $30,000 for the winning Unity-Windows Phone 8 game "Trouserheart"
In July, the popular Unity game development tool was finally made available for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 app creators with the launch of Unity 4.2. Today, Microsoft announced that since then, over 1,000 apps have been submitted to the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store that have used the Unity tools.
In a blog post, Microsoft says that they have tried to encourage Unity app developers on other platforms to port their games to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Microsoft recently held a porting lab with developers in Vancouver, British Columbia. The blog said, "By the end of the lab, we had helped developers port about 80 apps from iOS, Android, and other platforms to Windows Phone or Windows Store." Other porting labs will be held in London, UK on November 29th, San Fransisco on December 13-14 and in several locations in Finland in mid-January.
Microsoft has also revealed the winners of its Unity game development contest, which was also announced in July. The winner of the Windows Phone 8 contest was "Trouserheart" from developer 10tons while the winning Windows 8 Unity game was "Freddy" from developer Mobitouch Games. Both teams each received $30,000 for their efforts.
