In June, Microsoft announced that the Windows Phone Marketplace now has over 100,000 apps available for Windows Phone users. Later in the month, Google announced there were over 600,000 apps for Android owners to download via Google Play. Now, Research in Motion has weighed it on its own app statistics for its Blackberry App World storefront.
In a post on its Blackberry developer blog, the company announced that it had over 90,000 apps for Blackberry owners to check out. Furthermore, RIM said that it has seen over 3 billion app downloads since Blackberry App World launched. The first version of the app store was made available in April 2009. RIM added those numbers don"t include apps that were downloaded from third parties stores, via a website or apps launched internally by businesses.
The blog post states:
What’s even more important – and impressive – is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase. It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number.
Those numbers still are not even close to what Apple has generated from its iOS App Store. In June, Apple said over 30 billion apps had been downloaded from its store front. Google said last month it has seen 20 million app downloads from the Android Market/Google Play. Microsoft has not commented on how many downloads it has seen from Windows Phone Marketplace.
