After months of speculation and rumor, Apple has announced the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch, and Apple Pay. While these devices and services will undoubtedly become huge news pieces over the next couple of days, what could be lost in the mix is Apple"s announcement that they would be launching U2"s latest album, "Songs of Innocence", for free on iTunes.
Apple"s CEO, Tim Cook, had a bit of fun presenting this announcement by first introducing U2 and treating those in attendance with a performance. After the brief one song concert, Cook and U2 front man, Bono, began to exchange a scripted impromptu conversation about how iTunes has over half a billion customers worldwide. Bono than began to question Cook (in a joshing manner), on what method might be used in getting this new U2 album out to the majority of the world. After some awkward back and forth between Cook and Bono, Cook announced that U2"s new album would be made available for free for all iTunes users.
This promotion will begin today and last until October 2014. During this time, the album will remain an iTunes exclusive.
