Panasonic first showed off its impressive 20-inch tablet running on Windows 8 at CES nearly a year ago. The device, with a display resolution of 3840x2560, is supposed to start shipping to European customers later this month. Today, Panasonic revealed that the U.S. market will get the Toughpad 4K UT-MB5 tablet in January, but it comes will a steep price tag of $5,999.
Panasonic"s hardware specs for the U.S. version show that it will have Windows 8.1 Pro, with an Intel Core i5 processor inside with a 1.9GHz clock speed. The tablet will have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. It also will have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 745M graphics chip with 2GB of VRAM and a 720p webcam. There"s just one USB 3.0 port, along with a microSD card slot and a SmartCard reader. The tablet itself has a magnesium alloy frame and a glass fiber reinforced case which Panasonic claims can withstand a drop of up to 2 1/2 feet.
There is a Desktop Dock that"s sold as an optional accessory in case you want to use it as an all-in-one PC, along with an Electronic Touch Pen stylus. The 5.27 pound tablet has an estimated battery life of up to two hours.
