Paradox Interactive today announced another building game that will join its portfolio later this year. However, other than its name, Surviving the Aftermath, almost no more information about the game was released today, with the studio only saying that it is slated to be a "post-apocalyptic survival colony builder".
Surviving the Aftermath will serve as a new entry in Paradox"s Surviving franchise with the first game being Surviving Mars by Haemimont Games. Paradox didn"t say who will be developing the new entry, but it"s unlikely to be Haemimont Games again, considering the developer is now working alongside Frontier Developments on a new project.
Paradox Interactive lead producer Nikhat Ali said the popularity of Surviving Mars - which saw a player jump thanks to the Green Planet expansion - had made the studio consider other scenarios where the mechanics would fit in:
"With the staggering growth of Surviving Mars this year we knew we had something special and we wanted to find new ways to utilize survival management gameplay. Surviving the Aftermath gives us the opportunity to experiment with these mechanics in new and interesting ways that we think our players will love."
The launch schedule is a curious one. Surviving the Aftermath will be available in early access first exclusively via the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Preview program sometime this year. Then in late 2020, the game will launch in full on Steam and PlayStation 4, alongside Xbox One and Epic Games Store. The game will be unveiled in full during PDXCON 2019 in Berlin on October 19.
It certainly looks like a regular one-year Epic Games Store exclusive deal that we"ve witnessed before but with an early access launch. Also, don"t forget that Epic Games will be giving away Surviving Mars later this week on its store as part of its weekly freebies.
