Paradox Interactive has added another popular IP to its simulation portfolio, as the company announced today that it has purchased Prison Architect from the original developer Introversion Software.
Paradox was already the publisher of the award-winning game"s Android and iOS versions, but this new acquisition has the company claiming "all rights and assets" of Prison Architect across all platforms.
Regarding the surprising move, Introversion Software co-founder Mark Morris said that "I think we’ve taken Prison Architect just about as far as we can, and we’re all eager to see where a team like Paradox can take it next!" He also teased that his studio is working on a new project of its own, and that more details will be coming soon.
In addition to further developing Prison Architect, the new owner has plans to expand the "Architect" universe as well. Paradox Interactive CEO Ebba Ljungerud said:
“Just as we’ve done for other management-strategy games like Cities: Skylines and Surviving Mars, I believe the considerable player base of Prison Architect will be excited to see where we can take the game next, and we’re eager to explore development of potential new games based off of the ‘Architect’ IP."
We will have to wait and see what sort of new games can Paradox come up with using the private prison simulator"s formula. Currently, Prison Architect is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
