Earlier this year, Paradox Interactive announced Surviving Mars, a brand new city-builder where players will be given the chance to make settlements on Mars. Being developed by Haemimont Games, the studio behind recent Tropico titles, the initial announcement lacked any gameplay footage. Paradox rectified this at Microsoft"s gamescom conference, where it unveiled the game"s first gameplay trailer, seen above.
Even though the narrator in the trailer gives a great pitch, it seems all is not well on the red planet, although the googly eyed robots do seem quite useful. Adding a bit more information to the mix, the game"s official description on its store page says the following:
Surviving Mars is a sci-fi settlement builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement.
Unlike in Paradox Interactive"s other popular city-builder Cities: Skylines, where individual citizens are essentially insignificant, Surviving Mars puts a heavy focus on individual colonists in settlements, with players needing to keep a close eye on their needs and problems. The game also promises extensive modding support, although it is highly likely to be limited to the PC versions.
City-builder fans can get their hands on the game and see if they are cut out for surviving on Mars in 2018, with the game heading for Windows, Mac, Linux, as well as Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 platforms.
