It seems that Twitter is about to commit to going the way of Facebook with its feed view. What was once your personal feed, showing only tweets from people you follow, is likely on its way to opening up to suggested content (whether you like it or not).
Twitter"s product team posted an update on its own blog in regards to experimentation it had been doing with personal timelines. The company claims that positive results had been found in user testing when opening up personal feeds to allow for things like recommended Tweets, accounts and relevant topics. Facebook went a similar route when it opened up ad space within user news feeds, opening the door to relevant ads and pages to be placed within your social experience.
Twitter has been very busy this year with updating its platform, evidenced by the announcement of audio streams within the timeline as well as photo tagging and multi-photo adding feature additions. It will be interesting to hear how Twitter users react to this news. Unless a major development occurs, changing the course of this update, expect to see updates to your timeline in the coming months.
