Phil Spencer to talk about PC gaming, not Xbox One, at Microsoft's January event

The head of Microsoft"s Xbox division will be at the company"s Windows 10 event next month, but he"s not going to be there to talk about gaming consoles.

When it was revealed that Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft"s Xbox division, will be at the company"s Jan. 21 event for Windows 10, the logical conclusion was that he"d be there to talk about what the operating system will look like on Xbox One. Windows 10 will indeed be coming to Xbox One in some form, as it will run across a variety of device types, but Spencer will be at the event to talk about computer gaming, an area Microsoft hasn"t focused on in recent years.

In response to a user who asked him if footage will be shown of the Windows 10 interface overhaul on Xbox One, Spencer tweeted that "it"s time for us to talk about gaming on Windows," referring to the computer version of the operating system.

@RpLayy I"ll be focusing more on what we are doing on Win10 in January, it"s time for us to talk about gaming on Windows.

Microsoft has largely been absent in the computer gaming arena for the past several years, as it abandoned its Games for Windows Live initiative last year after the service was unsuccessful, and its strategy of using the Xbox brand on Windows has also lacked vision. In July, for instance, the company removed several games it published from the Windows Store despite there being no issues with the titles.

Developers have frequently complained about Xbox on Windows, saying Microsoft"s certification process takes too long, even to simply get patches released.
