Last year, Google created a somewhat confusing lineup of Pixel phones by releasing the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5 as very similar devices alongside each other. Now, leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks, has shared the first images and specs of the purported Pixel 5a (via PhoneArena), and it looks like Google isn"t trying to make it all that distinct from its predecessor.
The leaked images show a smartphone that looks nearly identical to the Pixel 4a 5G, featuring a seemingly plastic back in black, a white power button, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a dual-camera setup on the back, all similar to the 4a 5G. In terms of dimensions, there are some differences, with the Pixel 5a being 2.3mm taller, 0.8mm less wide, and 0.6 mm thicker than the Pixel 4a 5G, but overall, it looks exactly like its predecessor.
Specs for the cameras aren"t known yet, though there are two cameras, just like the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5, which featured a typical main camera alongside an ultra-wide-angle sensor. A third sensor is also present, which Hemmerstoffer believes should be a phase detection autofocus (PDAF) sensor.
The similarities continue, as the leak also claims there will be a 6.2-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution, just like the Pixel 4a 5G. However, it"s possible that the diagonal measurement is the same but with a different aspect ratio, considering the different width and height of the phone itself. And yes, there"s also a similar punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, but its specs are equally unknown at this time.
Other tidbits in the leak include the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack for those that still prefer it, as well as stereo speakers. Not much else is known right now, though there should be some sort of spec upgrade compared to last year"s model. Pixel devices have typically leaked in full well ahead of their release, so we should hear more between now and then.
