A price drop for Sony Computer Entertainment"s PlayStation 2 in the U.S. is likely not going to happen if we are to believe Kaz Hirai, president of the company"s U.S. division. Hirai told news agency Reuters to be "very comfortable" with the console"s current price and implied bundles by Microsoft and Nintendo, consisting of a console and one or more games, are "really not helping sales."
Industry executives, however, are keen on seeing price drops. Take-Two Interactive Software CEO Jeff Lapin hoped on "significant price cuts (at E3)," yet he conceded, "If I"m Sony, I"d never want to cut the price."
Brian Farrell, THQ"s chief executive, said not to mind the pricing of the PlayStation 2, just as long as Sony reaches its 10.5 million unit shipment target for the fiscal year.
