It"s a case of deja-vu all over again for some users of Sony"s Playstation Network today. The official Twitter page for the online gaming service has confirmed there are some issues with the network at the moment.
A tweet states, "We"re aware that some of you are having issues trying to log into PSN. We"re working to resolve the issue, and we"ll update you here." So far Sony has not given out any information on what has caused the login problems with the Playstation Network, nor is there a timetable for when these issues will be resolved.
This new issue with PSN reminds its many users of what happened back in April, when a cyber attack conducted by Lulzsec caused Sony to shut down the Playstation Network"s servers for several weeks. The attack on the service exposed personal info, but not credit card information (according to Sony, at least), for tens of millions of its users. Full service was restored by June and Sony gave PSN users free games and free 30 day subscriptions to its Playstation Plus premium service -- among other things -- as compensation for its downtime.
Earlier this month Sony CEO Howard Stringer said that the Playstation Network had bounced back from the cyber attacks, saying, "I"m pleased to tell you that the PSN is more secure and better than ever. We are aggressively expanding its content. We have more than 3 million new customers since the network came back online, and sales are exceeding what we had before the cyber attacks."
Update: The Playstation Network"s Twitter page now says the login problems have been fixed.
