Ahead of the PlayStation 4 launch in Europe today, Sony made the decision to temporarily disable two features of its PlayStation Network service to try to deal with an expected surge of users signing into PSN. Unfortunately, those preparations have not been as successful as planned, as many PS4 buyers in Europe have reported they have been unable to sign into PSN today.
In a post today on the PlayStation Europe blog, Sony says it is aware of the sign-in issues and as a result has disabled another one of PSN"s features for the time being, the "redeem voucher" option. Sony stated, "Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this stage." This feature has also been disabled for the North American PSN network as well.
The post stresses that users can still access the PlayStation Store to purchase items but that just the voucher selection to pay for content has been shut down for now. All of the other PSN features, including online multiplayer gaming, trophies, friends and more, are still up and running. Sony has yet to announce just how many PS4 consoles it has sold in Europe since the launch about a day ago.
