Plex streaming is now available on PS3 and PS4

For those uninitiated, Plex is a full featured streaming app which allows you to pretty much set up your own in-home Netflix. Aside from just streaming videos (as well as the ability to save where you were up to and continue on another device and so forth) Plex also allows a user to stream both photos and music as well, extending the capabilities of the streaming service.

While Plex has been available for Xbox owners for some time, there was very little indication about what was happening for the Sony PlayStation. Late last year the initial release of Plex on the Sony PlayStation began, and today Sony officially announced the release of Plex for PlayStation for North and South America.

To get Plex on your PlayStation, the process is as easy as it can get:

  1. Get a Plex Pass if you don"t already have one
  2. Sign into your PlayStation account
  3. Browse for the Plex app
  4. Pair your Plex account to your PlayStation

There are some caveats in the meantime: there is no support for streaming photos or music, and there is no Cloud Sync libraries or Plex Channel support. All of this may be coming in the future, however, but the information on this from Plex doesn"t go into detail.

For those who are not seeing the Plex app in the store, you might have to wait a short while before it becomes available in your country. Reading through the PlayStation FAQ on the Plex support website, they indicate that Sony"s app submission process is fragmented across different locations so each region needs to have an app independently submitted, reviewed and approved.
