Aside from the announcement of Super Mario Run coming to iOS at the recently concluded Apple event, it looks like Pokémon trainers are in for a bit of surprise too.
According to Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke, the mega-hit augmented reality game Pokémon GO has been downloaded over 500 million times on smartphones already. With that success in consideration, he also announced that the game is finally coming to the Apple Watch.
Pokémon GO, ever since its release, has been encouraging its players to step out of the house and walk around in order to find pocket monsters. This then motivates trainers to become fit while attempting to catch them all. With the Apple Watch version, the game will now track your steps and calories burned in real time, in order to have a better idea of how much impact Pokémon GO is having on your well-being.
Players have traveled 4.6 billion kilometers around the world hunting monsters, according to Hanke.
Moreover, the Apple Watch will notify you if you approach a PokeStop while walking around, earn a medal, or one of your eggs is about to hatch.
"With Pokémon GO on Apple Watch, I will never miss a Pokéstop," said Hanke.
Pokémon GO on the Apple Watch will be available by the end of the year.
