Over the past few months, Pokémon GO players have had the chance to participate in what was called "Professor Willow"s Global Research Challenge". The event actually consisted of three real-life events held in locations around the world, and each one had specific challenges to be completed during a set period of time. While each sub-event had its own set of challenges and rewards, Niantic is now announcing an extra large set of bonuses for players to celebrate completing all three.
Over the next few weeks, players can look forward to a lot of unique events. Starting September 13, the legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will be available in Raid Battles all around the world. Each of these was the reward for each of the three events throughout the summer, but they"ll all be available for one whole week ending September 20.
Once that period ends, Mewtwo will be making its way to regular Raid Battles instead. The Legendary Pokémon has been exclusively available through EX Raid Battles, which are only available to those specifically invited to participate. It will be available for over a month, until October 23, giving all players a much better chance to obtain it.
Rounding out the major news is the arrival of Mr. Mime, Farfetch"d, Tauros, and Kangaskhan in eggs. These four Pokémon are usually available in specific regions - Mr. Mime is exclusive to Europe, Tauros is exclusive to North America, and so on - so this is the easiest way players can obtain creatures from different parts of the world. They can be found in the 7km eggs until the end of the month.
As a smaller additional reward, Pokémon originally from the fictional Kanto region will be more common all around the globe until the end of the month.
All of this makes for a great opportunity to complete the Pokédex inside the game, but if you"re already at that point, you may have something to look forward to once the reward period is over. The official Twitter account for Pokémon Go seems to be teasing new content for the game:
Right now, the title only contains creatures from Pokémon titles up until the third generation of the franchise, but as of right now, there"s a total of seven generations. Pokémon GO has slowly been catching up with the existing creatures over the past couple years, and this could indicate the arrival of monsters from the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl titles launched on the Nintendo DS.
