myTube! is a fairly popular app among Windows 10 users, being one of the best ways to access YouTube on a Windows device. It does offer a free trial version that doesn"t impose many restrictions - you can only watch one hour of videos every three hours, after which you need to wait 10 minutes to continue watching - but you usually need to pay 99 cents if you want to bypass that limitation. If you"d like to avoid that, however, you"ll be happy to know that myTube! is free until November 2, exactly one week from today.
As our own Sharath Ravishankar detailed in his deep-dive guide of the app, myTube! is a highly functional client for YouTube built on the Universal Windows Platform, which means it"s available for PC, Xbox, and even Windows 10 Mobile devices. The app also gets updated often, and it recently received the ability to watch videos in groups, though that"s still in its early stages. This makes it a very compelling package, and if the price barrier was a problem, there"s little reason to not get the app now.
In addition to being free for the next week, myTube! also received an update to version 3.4 today, which makes some improvements to the overall experience. It"s not as major as version 3.3 was, but there are some new features worth noting. For example, you"ll now be able to sync your subscribed channels to the People app, which enables you to pin specific channels to the taskbar thanks to the My People feature added to Windows 10 last year. Support for the VP9 video format has also been added, enabling 1440p and 4k video playback, and timestamps are now clickable inside the app (both in comments and video descriptions), taking you to the desired spot in the video. You can check out the full list of changes here.
The developers also seem to be trying to find more ways to monetize the app, which is coincidentally happening at the same time the app itself is free. Users can now design their own color scheme for the interface, but that feature is only available by enabling monthly donations to the developer. If you"re interested, you can download myTube! from the Microsoft Store here - but remember it"s only free until next week.
