Earlier today Huawei announced its flagship P20 and P20 Pro smartphones at an event held in Paris. In addition to these, the company also announced the Porsche Edition Mate RS smartphone with beefed up specifications and a premium design.
The Porsche Edition Mate RS can be seen as a slightly upgraded P20 Pro with a curved glass design and an edge AMOLED screen like the Samsung Galaxy S9. Although, most of the hardware specifications of the smartphone are similar to the P20 Pro, there are some important distinctions in the Mate RS.
First of all, the resolution of the six-inch screen has been bumped up to QuadHD+ (2880 x 1440), which delivers 538 pixel per inch density. The next major difference is the presence of an in-display fingerprint scanner which activates after hovering over the bottom of the screen. The user can then touch the screen area to unlock the device. For those wanting a conventional fingerprint reader, there is one at the back of the device as well.
The Porsche Design Mate RS models with 256GB and 512GB storage are priced for €1,695 and €2,095, respectively, which is almost twice that of the P20 Pro. Huawei will begin selling the Mate RS starting April 12.
