Apple will be trying out something unconventional at its retail stores with the launch of the Apple Watch by giving appointments of variable duration depending on the choice of the watch by the customer.
In a recent interview, Tim Cook, had revealed that selling the Apple Watch will be a different experience for Apple, as it has never sold a product that can be tried on before purchasing. Additionally, there is the challenge of dealing with premium customers interested in the gold edition Apple Watch as well as the other users who choose the regular or the sports variants.
According to a report by the IBTimes, Apple has this situation figured out using appointments. The interested users will be given 15 minute appointments to try on the watch and get appropriate fitting for the band. Those who wish to purchase any of the Apple Watch Edition devices that cost upwards of $10,000, will be given an appointment twice as long as those for regular watches.
Customers will first need to register for an appointment using the Apple Store app on any of their Apple device which will link their preferences and Apple ID to the scheduled appointment. Store employees will then present only those devices that match the customer"s preferences. Although, walk-ins will also be entertained, store employees have recommended taking appointments to get a better experience.
Apple will open up the appointment registrations starting April 10 with actual sales starting on April 24.
