In August, Microsoft introduced an improved navigation experience for Power BI Mobile. This month, meanwhile, the "new look" for the service was further updated, bringing it closer to becoming the default experience for all users.
At Ignite 2020 today, Microsoft has announced that its newly launched app, Power BI for Teams is to enter public preview, with updates arriving later this year. Accompanying this announcement, two new offerings for Power BI Premium have been unveiled as well.
Power BI for Teams allows for a streamlined experience to access reports in Teams, connecting delivered insights with sample reports and automation in an efficient manner. Enhancements which "infuse teamwork with data insights" will be coming in public preview later this year. Users will be able to pin content to Teams channels, curate Excel content in Power BI, and enhance Excel and Teams integration through embedded channels and meeting experiences.
The first new premium offering that will be making its way to users in November is Premium Per User - an entry point to Power BI Premium. With flexible deployment and lower pricing, this capability primarily targets organizations that need to give premium features" access to only select users, instead of a large subset of employees. It will become generally available in Spring 2021.
Moving on, an on-demand scale capacity option has been brought to Premium customers as well, allowing them to elastically scale Premium nodes. This feature arrives alongside updates to the underlying architecture of the service, that allow for more efficient concurrent processing and up to 16x faster performance. Finally, deployment pipelines that enable lifecycle management for organizational content such as reports, dashboards, and datasets are now generally available as well.
