Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled a new webinar series that focuses on previewing new features that may arrive to Power BI in the future. The first part of this series will be held on November 6, a week before the release of the monthly update for Power BI Desktop. Earlier in October, Power BI On-premises data gateway got a new set of PowerShell cmdlets. For those unaware, the service provides efficient transfer between on-premise data and Microsoft cloud services like PowerApps, Flow, and more
Now, the Power BI team has announced three new capabilities for On-premises data gateway. In concise form, gateway management operations on the Power Platform Admin center have been improved to assist tenant admins in managing gateways by region, sharing gateways, and getting help for issues regarding gateway management.
Previously, admins could only view gateways with the tenant"s default region in the admin center. Now, however, gateways in other regions can also be managed. All available regions can be viewed via the region dropdown option. Selecting any of these will display a list of all gateways installed in that region; admins can then view gateway members or users for each individual gateway. The previously mentioned PowerShell cmdlets now also include region-specific cmdlets.
Moving on, gateways can now be shared by admins by selecting the "Can use + share" option as shown in the image above. It should be noted though, that this currently only applies to gateway sharing with PowerApps and Microsoft Flow. And finally, help regarding gateway management issues can be obtained by creating a support ticket. The issue in question can also potentially be resolved more quickly if the relevant session id is included during the creation of the ticket.
