President Obama kicks off Hour of Code event

There’s little doubt that being able to code is great skill to have when looking for a job, so it’s great to see the giants of tech world team up with the White House to promote coding once again. Today marks the beginning of this year’s Hour of Code event which aims to teach kids (and adults) the basics of computer programming.

Hour of Code is an initiative from the Code.org foundation and its prime directive is to help kids and students everywhere learn to create apps and games and better understand the technology that’s constantly around us.

The Hour of Code event is mainly focused on the US but that’s not to say this isn’t an international event with folks being able to join livestreams and chats from everywhere around the world. In fact, last year’s international interest was a major point of pride for the organizers.

Major companies and brands are also involved with Microsoft, Apple and Google hosting and streaming workshops. While individuals such as Bill Gates or Twitter’s Jack Dorsey have been dubbed Hour of Code ambassadors and will hang out on Youtube to spread the word.

The whole event officially runs until the 14th of the month though events are organized individually around the world.
