Press image of Lumia 1520, first 6-inch Windows Phone, leaked

Microsoft plans to support large-screen Windows Phone devices with an update to the smartphone operating system later this year, and now a press image of the first device expected to come with the update has leaked.

Twitter"s notorious and reliable smartphone source @evleaks posted an image of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 1520, a smartphone with a 6-inch screen boasting a 1080p resolution. Previously known by the internal codename "Bandit," the Lumia 1520 is expected to be formally revealed at a press event in New York on Sept. 26. 

According to leaked information of the device, the smartphone will feature Qualcomm"s quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera. The phone"s 6-inch screen will make it the largest Windows Phone device to date; Samsung"s Ativ S currently takes that crown with a 4.8-inch screen.

Microsoft"s upcoming Windows Phone firmware release, known as GDR3, is expected to bring minor additions such as a rotation lock, though the primary focus of the update will be support for 1080p screens. A screenshot of the Lumia 1520 released by @evleaks on Tuesday showed how the update will feature an additional two columns of Windows Phone"s smallest tiles for 1080p smartphones, giving them a total of six columns.
