We recently reported that the Krita Foundation has run into significant tax issues in the Netherlands, and has been hit with a total bill of €20,000. In a new update from the Krita Foundation, it has been announced that over 500 people have donated to the organisation a total of €9,562. In addition to this, the popular VPN provider, Private Internet Access has stumped up £20,000 (€22,131) in order to become a Krita sponsor; effectively saving the Krita Foundation from any trouble it may have ahead of it.
In the announcement, Krita maintainer, Boudewijn Rempt, wrote:
“We were stunned when we were approached by the team at Private Internet Access. They wanted to help us out and sponsor Krita with £20,000! Private Internet Access provides worldwide fast, multi-gigabit VPN Tunnel gateways. They already sponsor a great many awesome organisations, and now also Krita!”
The foundation now has certainty that not only can it pay the tax bill to the Dutch government but can also start sending money to one of its main developers again.
Going forward, the Krita Foundation"s plans include making exporting and rendering animations much faster, improving the performance of several brush engines on multi-core systems, adding touch functionality to the program, continuing work on the implementation of the new text tool, finishing the remainder of the Kickstarter features, and releasing Krita 3.2 soon.
