Late in January, Microsoft launched the Windows Phone 7.8 software upgrade for some older Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone owners. The single biggest new feature is the updated Start screen, which added resizable Live Tiles for apps. This allowed the older Windows Phone users to see tiles that displayed refreshed information such as email messages, Facebook updates and more.
At least, that"s was supposed to be how the Live Tiles were going to work. Now it appears that at least some Windows Phone owners are not seeing the Live Tiles in Windows Phone 7.8 refreshing their data as promised. WPCentral.com states that the problem appears to be related to the operating system itself.
The article states that app developers have three different ways to code the updates for Live Tiles for their Windows Phone 7.8 apps. However, a homebrew developer "Heathcliff" claims that two of those three methods, Shell Tile Scheduler and HTTP Notification Channel, do not appear to be working correctly.
Some Live Tiles also appear to flicker, which could cause a faster battery drain for owners of those smartphones. So far, Microsoft has yet to comment if they have discovered any issues with the Live Tiles feature in Windows Phone 7.8.
