Some of you may remember Huawei’s surprisingly beautiful answer to quad-core smartphones at MWC this year. The Ascend Quad D is a device which sports Huawei’s own chipset which has been benchmarked and proven to being superior to Apple’s A5X and Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chipsets, but that superiority means nothing if the production hasn"t happened yet.
The device will enter production in August, which is a little behind schedule according to comments from the chief of the company"s consumer business group. It would seem that Huawei is currently experiencing "technical problems" with its ambitious K3V2 system-on-chip, but the research and development team is well underway to get things ready as fast as possible.
Main chipset aside, the Ascend D Quad sports a 4.5-inch, 720p display and a rear-facing 8-megapixel setup capable of shooting 1080p video and a more standard-issue 1.3-megapixel job on the front. It also weighs in at 4.6 ounces and is 8.9mm thick, pretty much matching HTC’s One X.
The Ascend Quad D will natively run the AOSP Vanilla version of Android which will make it the only phone to do so aside from the Nexus devices.
