ProtonMail team launches new ProtonVPN service

After more than a year in development, the team behind the privacy-oriented ProtonMail has launched ProtonVPN. The service is now available to the general public meaning anyone can sign up for the first time following four months of beta testing by over 10,000 members of the ProtonMail community.

There are three paid tiers available and one free tier, the latter will require you to wait on a list while they scale their servers to handle the load. The FREE tier allows you to connect to three different countries, from one device, but only offers low speeds. The BASIC tier is $4/month and allows you to appear as though you are in any of the countries provided by ProtonVPN, you can connect two devices simultaneously, and you’re given high speeds.

The PLUS service costs $8/month and lets you appear from any country, you can connect five devices at once, you get the best speeds, access to exclusive servers, additional protections via Secure Core routing, and the ability to send your traffic through Tor. Finally, the VISIONARY package costs $24/month and gives you the same things as PLUS, however, you can connect 10 devices at once, and it includes ProtonMail Visionary.

There are 13 server locations supported by ProtonVPN, they are Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, Hong Kong, Iceland, Japan, The Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the USA.

ProtonVPN has its own app for easily managing connections and visualising where you are tunnelling to. The app is available on Windows, Android, Linux, Mac and iOS. ProtonVPN keeps no logs and offers perfect forward secrecy. It’s also in Switzerland putting it outside of EU and US jurisdiction.

By using ProtonVPN you agree to their terms, including no sharing of illegal content, no harassment, no spamming, no hacking, no infringing intellectual property rights, and no promotion of illegal activities.
