ProtonVPN finally releases iOS app after month-long beta period

ProtonVPN has finally announced that its iOS app is available to the general public via the app store. The development comes roughly one month after it launched a beta app through Apple’s TestFlight programme. The firm said this is a major milestone because it now provides protection on most of the major platforms, including Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and now iOS. The firm also confirmed that it now has more than a million users worldwide.

The firm reiterated in its statement that it relies on people buying subscriptions for its service even though it does allow limited access to free accounts. The new iOS app does let you upgrade to a paid plan from directly within the app but due to Apple’s rules which let it take a 30% cut, it means you’ll have to pay slightly more if you upgrade within the app. For this reason, ProtonVPN recommends that you upgrade online so you can save $12.

With regards to the beta programme that opened up last month, the firm is going to keep this running for those who want to continue testing the cutting edge versions of the app before they’re made available to the general public via the app store. When new releases become available, the TestFlight app will send you a notification.

If you use an iPhone and want to use the new app, simply head over to the app store to find the application or use this link.
