Gamers here in the US and other parts of the world who have been saving up their money to buy Sony"s PS Vita portable game console now have a target date. The official Playstation blog has announced that the PS Vita will go on sale here in the US on February 22, 2012. The console will also go on sale on that same date in Canada, Latin America and Europe. Sony had previously announced that the PS Vita would be available for sale first in Japan on December 17.
As promised back in June during E3 2011, the PS Vita will be sold in two different versions; one with WiFi for $249.99 and one with both WiFi and 3G connectivity for $299.99. That version will connect to AT&T"s wireless network but so far neither Sony nor AT&T have commented on the 3G pricing plans for the console. Both versions of the PS Vita will include a five inch touch screen, a back panel that can also be touched for gameplay purposes, two analog sticks, and front and rear cameras.
Sony says it already has over 100 PS Vita games in development from both Sony"s own internal developers along with third party teams. PS Vita games will be sold both in retail stores as well as downloadable games on the Playstation Network. In addition to games, the console will also have a number of social networking apps for services like Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare along with the Skype Internet phone service.
