Today is a big day for Apple and anyone owning an iPhone, iPod, or iPad. iOS 11 launches today and there are a few things that Apple Support is advising people to do before they try to update to the new operating system. Here"s a checklist.
- Back up your iPhone first: You can do that whether through iCloud or iTunes, Apple offers detailed instructions for both on it"s support site. If you have your device set up to automatically back up to iCloud, make sure that your latest backup has finished before moving on to install iOS 11.
- Make sure your device is compatible: Not all iPhones or iPads will be able to upgrade to iOS 11. Here is a list of devices getting the update.

- Make sure you know your Apple ID password: If you don"t, you will need to reset it before you can update.
- Make sure you know the passcode for your device: You probably use it every day so this won"t be an issue, but you likely don"t want to lock yourself out of your phone before you can update.
Also, if you were part of Apple"s Public Beta Program, it"s advised to opt out of it before Apple starts publishing even newer updates.
Once you have all of that done, you can update your device; if your Apple device is on the list of devices recieving the update, it should also alert you that a new version of the OS is available. after which you can simply follow the prompts to get it done.
