PSA: Time is running out to hold on to your 15GB free OneDrive storage + camera roll bonus

This weekend will be your last opportunity to ensure that your OneDrive account is not affected by significant reductions to free storage allowances, which Microsoft will be introducing in the next few days.

In November, Microsoft announced big changes to its OneDrive storage allowances, including the removal of the unlimited storage benefits that it had previously promised to Office 365 subscribers. It also announced that it was reducing its free storage allowance for all users from 15GB to just 5GB, as well as removing the free 15GB "camera roll bonus" for backing up users" photos to its cloud storage platform.

The company blamed the need for those changes on a tiny handful of users who had supposedly used "too much" of their unlimited storage, but many users agreed that Microsoft"s decision was a bizarre overreaction to a problem of its own making.

In December, Microsoft apologized to its customers for the way it had handled the announcement regarding those changes, but said that it wasn"t changing its plans, although it did offer some concessions. Among them, it said that it was...

...adding a new offer that lets you keep your existing 15 GB of free storage when the changes happen next year. If you also have the 15 GB camera roll bonus, you’ll be able to keep that as well. From now until the end of January, you can sign up to keep your storage at the link below.

That brings us to today, and this reminder that you now have only a couple of days left to hit the link above and protect your OneDrive account from the free storage reduction to 5GB, and the removal of the camera roll bonus, which will come into effect after this weekend.

By the way, Microsoft also said last month that "for customers of our free service who have over 5 GB of content and who are directly impacted by the storage change, we will offer one free year of Office 365 Personal, which includes 1 TB of storage." It said that it would send these users "an email with redemption information" sometime in early 2016.
