PSA: You now have exactly one month to upgrade to Windows 10 for free

It’s time to check your calendar folks, because as of today, you have exactly one month left to take advantage of Microsoft’s offer and upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Early last year Microsoft announced its then upcoming OS, Windows 10, would be made available for free in its first year. A few months later, on July 29th 2015, the operating system launched around the world. Now, we’re just one month away from its anniversary and the end of the free upgrade offer.

There was strong speculation for a while that the free offer would continue after the July 29th cut off date, but Microsoft recently came out and unequivocally said that this wouldn’t happen. Instead those of you who miss out on the upgrade offer will need to either purchase new devices or get a Windows 10 Home license for $119.

Microsoft’s goal with Windows 10 is to hit 1 billion devices as soon as possible, and with that, the company made aggressive moves in pushing its new OS to users. Ranging from helpful and charitable, to downright annoying and scary; the Windows 10 upgrade prompts have put users through an emotional rollercoaster. The company’s latest move was to kick things down a notch and offer users a helpful and easy to understand way to upgrade to Windows 10 or decline the offer.

Windows 10 is Microsoft’s best OS ever. Not only does it come with numerous new features and experiences, but Microsoft claims it’s also the most stable, reliable and secure operating system that the company has ever put out. To that end missing out on this offer would be a shame.

But just in case you can’t upgrade to Windows 10 before the offer expires, know that there is a way to reserve your free upgrade, even after July 29th.

If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 10, then you have the Anniversary Update to look forward to, which is the second point release update following the "November Update". Arriving a couple of days later, on August 2nd, the Anniversary Update brings a slew of improvements to Windows 10, and the update will be available for free.

Have you upgraded to Windows 10 yet? What was your experience like? Or what’s keeping you from upgrading if you haven’t yet? Let us know in the comments below.
