PUBG discounted to $19.99 in celebration of 400 million players

PUBG may have been dethroned from the top spot in the battle royale genre by the recent explosion in Fortnite"s popularity, but the trend-setting game is definitely not dying anytime soon.

Across the many platforms on which it is currently available - including Steam, Xbox One, iOS and Android - the game has racked up a total of 400 million players worldwide since it was launched as an Early Access title early last year. The game also boasts 227 million returning players every month, and 87 million daily players.

Having sold over 50 million copies of the game between the PC and Xbox One, the studio wants to sell you even more of its flagship product with a massive 33% discount on the title, bringing its price to $19.99 on Steam for the first time ever.

Alongside the currently existing Erangel and Miramar maps, the game is also set to receive a brand-new one called Sanhok later this month on June 22.

That discount may be one way PUBG Corp. is trying to compete with Fornite"s significant advantage as a free-to-play title, but that"s not the only avenue it is pursuing in the fight to regain the top spot in the battle royale genre. The developer recently sued Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite, in South Korea over allegations of copyright infringement. The outcome of that case is yet to be decided.
