Qatar Airways to offer laptop rental service to customers after US tech ban

Qatar Airways has announced that it will be offering a free laptop rental service for business class passengers on flights to the US.

The decision follows new regulations issued the US government, which state that the passengers in flights to the US from selected airports may not carry electronics larger than smartphones into the cabin. The UK also instated similar prohibitions which, unlike the US ban, will be enforced at the discretion of the airline.

Laptops will be available for Qatar Airways passengers flying business class on flights to the US, and although the promotional photo for the service appears to portray a MacBook, there has been no word on which laptops will be available. Qatar Airways will also provide USB sticks so that passengers can copy over their files before boarding.

Qatar Airways is not the only airline attempting to minimise the disruption caused by the ban: Gulf News reports that premium passengers on Etihad Airlines flights to the US will have access to free Wi-Fi and iPads.
