Major carriers will be supporting Microsoft"s Windows for ARM mobile PC initiative with LTE support, Qualcomm has revealed today.
Microsoft previously announced 5 carriers which would be supporting their always-connected PCs with LTE at CES this year. Microsoft and Qualcomm have now expanded the list with the addition of Telstra, CMCC (China Mobile Communications Corporation), Transatel, Deutsche Telekom, Cubic, Telefónica, Swisscom, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
This brings the total number of carriers to 14, in addition to EE, Telecom Italia, Sprint, Verizon, and China Telecom which were already revealed.
Matt Barlow, Corporate Vice President, Windows and Devices, Microsoft said in a statement:
"The Always Connected PC combines the connectivity and the simplicity of the smartphone with the power and creative capability of the Windows 10 PC, transforming how we work and play,” said “In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and with the support of these mobile operators, consumers will be able to enjoy up to gigabit 4G/LTE connectivity and stay connected to the things that are most important to them.”
Microsoft and its partners announced a few Always Connected PCs this year at CES, including the Acer Swift 7, the Lenovo Miix 630 and the HP Envy X2, among others.
Always Connected PCs are part of Microsoft"s hardware focus for 2018, and we should expect to see more than a few of them launching this year as the nascent platform finds its feet.
