Qualcomm reportedly readying a Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 for PCs

It"s been a while since Qualcomm introduced any significant updates for its PC chipsets. The newest one is September"s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G, which can barely be considered a new chipset, as it"s such a minor change from the two-year-old Snapdragon 8cx. In 2019, the Snapdragon 7c and 8c were introduced for lower-end devices.

And according to a new report from WinFuture, Qualcomm is getting ready to refresh the Snapdragon 7c. The internal name of what will likely be called the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is the SC7295, and according to the report, it"s similar to the SM7350 (probably the Snapdragon 775) that"s going to be found in phones.

The prime core will be clocked at 2.7GHz, while it"s going to have three big cores that run at 2.4GHz and four little cores that run at 1.8GHz. The report doesn"t say when we can expect Qualcomm to announce the chipset, or when devices using it will ship.

The Snapdragon 7c, however, has been one of the more successful chipsets for Qualcomm. With the Snapdragon 835, 850, and 8cx, there have been a handful of devices for each generation. And so far, we"ve barely seen anything with a Snapdragon 8c. We"ve already seen a handful of Snapdragon 7c-powered Windows devices for the educational market, promising 4G LTE connectivity and long battery life for students at a low price point for schools.

Another place that we"re seeing the Snapdragon 7c show up is the Chromebook market, so this is actually the company"s first compute SoC that"s shown up for more than just Windows. Not only that, but it"s been shown to be a superior chip to its competition on Chrome OS, as it doesn"t have some of the same struggles that ARM-powered Windows devices have.
