Popular question and answer site Quora has taken out the best new product of 2010 in the annual Crunchie awards, with Twitter awarded the best overall startup last year.
The Crunchies, which took place earlier this evening, are co-hosted by a number of high profile United States technology sites including TechCrunch, GigaOm and VentureBeat and offer readers the chance to vote for their most loved startups of the year.
With more than 20 categories available for entry, startups were encouraged to convince users to vote for their organisation in the awards which were presented at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater in San Francisco.
Notable winners of the event include Quora - which won best new startup of 2010 and was closely followed by Square and Twitter, which won best overall startup of 2010 and was followed by discount giant Groupon.
Groupon CEO Andrew Mason took out CEO of the year, while Mark Pincus, Zynga CEO, was awarded founder of the year. Cityville took out the biggest time sinker award, while Flipboard -- the iPad app which made headlines after being praised for a new way to experience media -- was awarded the best touch interface award.
Google"s self-driving cars were awarded best technology achievement for 2010, while the iPad was the best new device according to the voters. Foursquare and Facebook Places were awarded first and second place in the best location app category respectively, and Pandora was awarded best internet application.
