Razer, a company best known for it"s high end gaming peripherals has taken the wraps off of a new controller at their PAX Prime keynote dubbed the Wildcat. Designed for tournaments and gamers seeking a competitive edge, the controller joins their existing line of peripherals designed for the Xbox One, the Atrox Arcade Stick and Kraken Headset.
As you can see from the video above, the controller shares many similarities with Microsoft"s own Elite controller announced at E3 this year along with some unique features. Like the Elite controller, the Wildcat features the ability to re-map keys to your hearts content, along with thoughtful additions like rear multifunction buttons and trigger stops. The Wildcat also features built-in volume and chat controls, similar to those found on the adapter Microsoft sells separately for its own controllers.
Razer says that materials it used in the design of the Wildcat aid in its durability and reliability. These design choices include materials like reinforced high carbon steel analog stick necks, aircraft grade aluminum triggers, and palm grips that can be removed as desired. Razer adds that many of the feature considerations like controller shape and weight were made with feedback from real professional gamers, playing to their "by gamers, for gamers" slogan.
Razer has listed the exact specifications for the Wildcat that are as follows:
-
2 shoulder Hyperesponse Multi-Function Bumpers
-
2 removable Hyperesponse Multi-Function Triggers
-
4 Hyperesponse ABXY action buttons
-

It appears the Wildcat will be giving the Xbox Elite controller a run for its money. Speaking of which, the Wildcat will run $150 (the same price as the Elite) when it launches in October of this year, so you have some time before you have to decide what controller you will be splurging on.
