Today, Razer announced a new headset called the Kraken X, one of its cheapest Kraken headsets. It costs $49.99, and it includes 7.1 surround sound, a first for Razer"s headphones in this price range.
The Kraken X is lighter than the regular Kraken, too, weighing in at 250 grams, rather than the 320 grams of this year"s Kraken model. The headset still has memory foam cushioning for the ears, an adjustable headband, and a bendable cardioid microphone that has a mute switch for when you don"t want to use it. It does, however, miss out on customizable lighting, since it only connects via the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Kraken X will come in a normal black version and a console version, which has blue highlights that match better with the traditional PlayStation colors. Both cost the same, though, and neither offers any exclusive features. They"re available through Razer"s website starting today, and you can get the regular edition here and the console version here.
Razer also announced that 7.1 surround sound will now be included by default in all Kraken models under $99, including the recent 2019 refresh of the base Kraken headset. If you"ve already bought one of these headsets, you"ll get a code to activate the 7.1 surround sound capabilities on RazerID once you register your headset. The higher-end headsets, such as the Kraken Tournament Edition and the Nari family, will now get THX Spatial Audio as an exclusive feature.
