Razer launches viral site for big announcement Friday

Razer is not one to shy away from announcements of new products. Indeed, it seems that the PC game peripheral company announces a new headset, gaming PC mouse or keyboard every week. But its next product announcement is getting some special attention well ahead of its planned reveal. The company sent out a media alert on Sunday with an URL address, www.pcgamingisnotdead.com, that takes its visitors to a viral marketing web site.

That site has a old fashioned looking PC speaking to the user, saying that people who believe that PC gaming is dead compared to consoles are, well, wrong. The message emphasizes the open platform of the PC as the big advantage compared to console hardware and also says that 300 million people worldwide play PC games which it claims is more than all of the players of the various console game machines combined.

The big reveal of whatever Razer has in mind is scheduled to happen on Friday, August 26. As we previously reported, Razer is also supposed to show off a major new product at a panel on Saturday, August 27 at PAX Prime in Seattle and it"s likely to be the same as the one that"s being promoted on the viral site. The media alert also hinted that more will be revealed on Monday on the site.

Razer"s last really big announcement was at CES in January when it revealed its concept design for the Switchblade portable PC gaming device. It"s unknown if the August 26 reveal is related to the Switchblade in any way or if it will be something all new.
