Razer Phone updated with Meltdown and Spectre fix, Netflix HDR support

It was only a short while ago that Razer debuted its first ever smartphone. Although it flexed some impressive features like its 120Hz display and dual stereo speakers, there were other parts of it that left much to be desired. Despite its shortcomings, the firm has made strides to improve the experience, issuing software updates to improve the camera and audio. Razer has now released a new update, adding enhancements for Netflix, additional camera improvements, and more.

According to the folks at XDA Developers, the update is being provided over-the-air (OTA) and will enable HDR playback, as well as Dolby 5.1 audio support. The firm is once again tweaking the quality of the camera and also issuing a fix that caused slight yellowing in some images.

On the security front, Razer has updated the phone with the January security patch, along with a fix for Meltdown and Spectre. Despite this being the company"s first handset, it is well ahead of the game when it comes to smaller updates - the smartphone is still running Android 7.1.1, with plans to update to Android Oreo by the end of Q1 of 2018.
