RED removes mentions of modular accessories for Hydrogen One from its website

In July 2017, RED announced the Hydrogen One, generating a ton of excitement about a phone that boasted the world"s first holographic display. It launched to disappointing reviews, but it seemed that its one saving grace would be the promised modular accessories, such as new cameras, a larger battery, and more.

As spotted by a member of the r/Android subreddit, has removed all material regarding the modular accessories from its website. Promised to be arriving in 2019, the website said the following:

The RED HYDROGEN One isn’t just built to expand more than just your view of what’s possible, it’s a modular, cinema-capable media machine that fits in your pocket.

You can add a power pack for increased battery life, expand the phone’s memory to capture more of your precious moments, or attach a camera module with interchangeable lens mounts.

Now, what you make of it all is entirely up to you.

Now, that"s all gone, and it"s not looking good for RED. The RED Hydrogen One is not an inexpensive device, coming in at $1,295, so it would be fair if those that bought into the company"s message feels cheated by this. And of course, RED hasn"t issued any statement regarding the change, which will likely add fuel to the fire.

We"ve reached out to RED to ask for a statement. It"s entirely possible that these modular accessories are still coming, although there"s currently no mention of them at all on the firm"s website.
