At the end of the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase today, Arkane Studios showed up as the "one last thing" with a brand new game announcement for Redfall. Only a cinematic trailer accompanied the announcement, seen above, but thankfully quite a bit of information about the vampire hunting experience was revealed today.
Coming in as a cooperative, open world, first-person shooter developed by Arkane Austin, Redfall pits up to four players against a legion of vampires. The name comes from the town that the game is set in, RedFall, Massachusetts. This island town is under siege, and the sun has been blotted out.
Players will be fighting both vampires and human cultists that worship them, so not even daytime is much of an ally like in other vampire narratives. Garlic is also out as a helpful tool since these are apparently "science-inspired" vampires.
The four heroes who are fighting back come with unique abilities, from telekinetic abilities and a raven scout to a robot companion.
“We wanted players to have an Arkane experience, but with the option of playing with friends this time,” says co-creative director Ricardo Bare detailing the heroes. “As a result, we thought going for heroes with strong personalities and distinctive backgrounds would make for a stronger game. We think players are going to enjoy not only the interaction of their various abilities as they fight the vampires, but also seeing their chemistry develop over time as they liberate Redfall.”
Redfall is launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC in the summer of 2022, and like other Xbox Game Studios" titles, it will be a day one drop on Xbox Game Pass. This is not the only project being developed under Arkane, as its Lyon studio is also developing Deathloop for PC and PlayStation platforms.
